So, I do some business and get a check to me drawn from a Bank of America branch. The guy says his bank is right up the road if I want to cash it. As much as it makes me throw up in my mouth a bit to even go near a BofA I want to cash the check. Up to the teller and ask to cash the check- she asks me to swipe my BofA debt card- I say I am not a member. She looks at me and asks me why did I not just take it to my bank? Won't they take care of this for you? Is there some reason I brought the check in to be cashed? Seriously? I pointed out this is a check from one of their customers and I want to CASH the check. Her- hmmmm, let me get a manager. The manager comes over and looks at the check and looks at me and looks at the check again- so your not a member? I was then asked about who I bank with and do I want to become a BofA member. Long story short- a finger print, rectal exam and a $6 check cashing fee BofA reluctantly cashed the check. Yup, I had to pay $6 for 15 minutes of interrogation and some cash. Bank of America you are a piece of s............ Please do not do business with them. PLEASE close them down! How does a company get so big they treat us like a bother.
First of all I want to make it clearI hate BOA with with a passion from the bottom of my heart. I worked there for years, I was a teller I cashed checks. I will tell you that is what you ARE told to do. You have to make 3 sales a day minimum. They love when people who cannot cash at their own bank come in, they hit them with a fee and try and get them to open an account. I have worked at other banks, all charge some sort of fee. With the amount of fraud going on especially at big banks like that. Everytime you cash for a non customer it is scary, if for some reason it is fraud, you are gonna be the one who takes the hit and lose your job if you did not follow procedure to a tee. I work for a small, community owned wonderful financial institution now and they as well do a fingerprint and charge a fee. Just don't take it out on the lowly teller, they are just following orders. Hopefully one day they will learn even drones can leave the hive and find a job with a more ethical company. Of all the things, their check cashing policy for non customers is not that bad.
No, she or he didn't say open an account for ONE transaction, and YOU know she didn't. What he or she meant was be an adult--maintain an account someplace. Have a banking relationship someplace so that you can take your checks to that bank that you do business with, deposit it into your account anywhere, not incur a fee and use the funds in your account like anyone else for your purchases.
I sold a motorcycle to some local dealer, got a pretty good price, but just had a weird feeling about the availability of funds, so I chose to go to HIS bank and cash the check there, rather than deposit it, and have it come back later as a bad check. So I did. It was a business check, they told me they could cash it for a fee $8.50. I did and took the cash. I paid the $8.50 and figured it would be a better deal than put $3800 into my account, use it, and maybe have the check bounce and incur OD FEES.
I was not a customer of that bank. It was not a personal check--it was a busines check. I expected a fee. Got the fee, and paid the fee. But if I wanted to avoid the fee and take a chance, I am an adult and do have an account and could have deposited there without a fee. THAT is what XlovewasloveX is telling you.
